Our focus
Africa's relationships with the wider world are changing. Demographic and economic change, geopolitical competition, technological transformation, new development partnerships and shifts in global institutions are creating new opportunities and constraints for African states and societies.
SPI examines Africa's place within these changes while moving beyond approaches that treat the continent primarily as a recipient of international policy.
Our work asks how African states, institutions and societies navigate global structures, exercise agency within them and contribute ideas, interests and institutions of their own to the changing international order.
